Setting goals for you

It’s so easy to get in the swing of things and forget about all your goals and aspirations you started setting out December 31st. This year I took a completely different approach to this and let January 1st float by and started thinking about my goals throughout January.

As the queen of goal setting says “There’s nothing special about January”. It’s true - why do we pull all our wants into one day of thought and then after two weeks of dedication let them go? Because most of the time they are aspirational. long-term goals that need action steps in between. We always look at the shiny object and when it starts to put forth the work, the goals start slipping away.

I started using Powersheets last year and I used them completely wrong. I set forth such unrealistic goals that by March I stopped using the notebook. It was because I didn’t look at how much my life was about to change by giving birth…

I expected to continue my work ethic throughout maternity leave and that was unrealistic. There’s no need to conquer the world in one year. Your yearly goals should latter up to the bigger picture of your life-long goals. For example, one of my smaller goals this year is to take hand lettering lessons. That’s it, just consistently practice lettering and take online courses (thanks YouTube). You can have one giant goal and a ton of mini goals on the side!

Last year, my goal should have been to birth a human and keep him healthy and happy! This is a HUGE goal. Yes, everybody does it and they succeed but to change your lifestyle, routines and habits is hard and that should have been the goal.

What are your small and big goals this year? Do you use Powersheets?
