SKINCARE: Benefits of incorporating oils in your skincare

As someone with oily-combination skin, I was so scared of facial oils. I saw all these squares on Instagram with these girls dousing their face in these luxurious oil concoctions and I would just scroll past….because why would I need to put more oil on my already oily skin?

Fast-forward to a year of using oils on my skin and I will never look back! I started my love affair with oils back when I was pregnant with my first. My skin needed some TLC but nothing was working and I was just getting into more natural brands. I remember trying out Drunk Elephant’s vitamin C oil and loved the way it made my skin look. However, I wasn’t a fan of the price tag. So I started searching for brightening oils.

balance your skin

Here is the thing, I was terrified of continuously using oils. After all, I had combo skin… However, more than likely, you’re overproducing oils because you are stripping your face from its natural oils and therefore your skin produces more to make up for it hence why you get oily skin. It basically rebalances your skin!

Oils protect your skin

Due to its heavy consistency, facial oils can protect your skin better than just a moisturizer. They are able to go deeper into your skin therefore keeping the moisture locked in. This is a great fighter against pollution, dry or cold air which is something to remember for the upcoming winter season.

Helps your moisturizer perform

Moisturizers are expensive, especially for dry skin. When you buy one, you want it to do its job. If your oil is applied last in your routine, this will seal in your moisturizer to do its job and moisturize your skin while being protected by oils.

The most important thing to do when you are incorporating oils in your skincare is to ensure you are choosing something that delivers the benefits you need. For example, I can’t use coconut oil as it clogs my pores and breaks me out. However, I love using jojoba oil as it helps reduce irritation on sensitive skin. So do your research before you slather yourself in this stuff. Whether you DIY or you buy from a store, I know you will love oils!
