What’s the difference between chemical and physical sunscreen?
What is zinc oxide SUNSCREEN?
Zinc oxide is a mineral filter that sits on top of the skin as a barrier to reflect sun. The physical blocker zinc oxide will protect you against both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are the ones that cause aging, sun spots, and then skin cancer whereas UVB rays cause sunburn. These type of sunscreens are what you think would leave a white cast but the latest products actually have no cast when rubbed in.
What’s the difference?
Chemical sunscreen absorbs the rays whereas physical reflects it! Chemical sunscreens contain ingredients such as avobenzone, oxybenzone, or octocrylene. These type of chemicals can be irritating to the skin and are also harmful to coral reefs. This is why Hawaii has banned sunscreens with these ingredients (oxybenzone and octinoxate) by 2021.
